Flexible funding and access rules

Choose who is eligible, what appointment types are included, and how costs are shared between the institution and student.

Confidential clinical care

Students book directly with DocTap. Schools and universities can manage access and billing, but clinical records stay confidential.

Institution setup

How it works

It takes a few minutes to set up. Once your institution account is live, your students can book directly

  • 1
    Create your institution account
Sign up online, choose School or university, and add your institution details.
  • 2
    Students book directly
Students you’ve added receive an email invitation to set up their patient profile. Once payment is in place, they can book eligible appointments themselves — DocTap applies the institution rules automatically at checkout.
  • 3
    Set access and payment rules
Set annual appointment limits, eligible appointment types, student contributions and institution-funded balances.
  • 4
    Add your students
Add students individually, upload a spreadsheet, or speak to DocTap about API integration for larger student-access workflows.
  • 5
    Set payment method
Add a billing card so students can start booking, or speak to us about invoice billing. You are only charged when a student books and your institution funds part of the appointment.
  • 6
Track usage without seeing clinical details
Your institution can manage students, bookings, invoices and billing while student medical care remains confidential.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a contract, minimum spend or minimum number of students?

No. There is no contract, minimum spend or minimum number of students. You only pay when a student books an appointment and your institution funds part or all of it. You can remove students or stop the arrangement whenever needed.

Can international students use DocTap?

Yes. DocTap can see students who are not UK residents, including international students. They are seen as private patients in the same way as any other student.

What does the standard student setup include?

The standard setup covers GP consultations, including diagnosis, treatment, prescriptions, referrals, sick notes and medical letters when clinically appropriate. Testing, sexual health services and other DocTap services can be enabled for your organisation account if you want students to access them through the scheme.

Can students access testing or sexual health services through DocTap?

The standard student setup covers GP consultations. Testing, sexual health services and other DocTap services can be added to your organisation account, so students can access them through the scheme. Speak to us and we can enable the relevant services.

How much does an appointment cost?

DocTap charges standard patient rates, with no setup, platform or subscription fees. Current GP appointment prices are listed at https://doctap.co.uk/prices. Your institution is only charged according to the contribution rules you set.

Can students outside London use DocTap?

DocTap’s clinics are in London, but online GP appointments are available when clinically suitable. Clinic appointments are usually best for examinations, testing, procedures or concerns where the GP needs to see the student in person.

Can under-18 students use DocTap?

Yes. DocTap can see children and young people, but under-18s must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Can schools or universities verify DocTap letters and sick notes?

Yes. DocTap sick notes can be verified online using the document details and reference at https://doctap.co.uk/verify-sick-note. Medical letters can also be verified online at https://doctap.co.uk/verify-letter. Verification confirms the document is genuine without giving the institution access to the student’s consultation notes, test results or wider medical record.

Can students access mental health support?

Yes, as a separate service. Mental health support is not part of the standard GP setup, but it can be enabled for your organisation account so students can access it through the scheme. Speak to us and we can set it up.

Will the institution see why a student booked?

No. Your team can manage access, usage and billing, but you do not see consultation notes, symptoms, prescriptions, test results or clinical documents. Student medical care stays confidential.

What happens when a student leaves or is no longer eligible?

You can remove students from the organisation account when their access ends. They can continue using DocTap privately through their own patient account, but the institution’s contribution rules will no longer apply.
